More information

Norbert Weissmann's research focuses on lung diseases, particularly pulmonary hypertension (PH) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His work investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive lung tissue damage and blood vessel remodeling in these diseases, with a specific focus on oxidative stress and hypoxia (low oxygen levels) as major contributing factors.

Professor
AG Sommer
More information

Natascha Sommer focusses on the transfer of fundamental, preclinical scientific concepts to clinical practice, as well as the implementation of clinical questions into experimental problem solutions ("from bench to bedside and from bedside to bench"). This has been achieved by setting up a basic scientific working group in the field of pulmonary vascular and airway remodeling with a focus on mechanisms dependent on mitochondria and reactive oxygen species. In parallel, clinical work guarantees close contact to patients and other clinicians for optimal translational research and conduct of clinical trials.

More information

Stefan Hadzic's research focuses on lung repair and alveolar–vascular homeostasis in chronic lung diseases, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His work investigates the developmental programs and cellular mechanisms that regulate tissue maintenance, with a specific focus on developmental disturbances and redox stress as major drivers of susceptibility to vascular alterations and lung function decline. Additionally, he explores the therapeutic potential of reactivating these developmental pathways to reverse structural deterioration and restore functional lung integrity.
